The F40 was the first road car to do more than 200 mph – and all without ABS brakes or any electronic controls. It didn't even have power assisted steering or brakes. This car had a very singular mission: to thrill.
The F40 represented the 40th anniversary of Ferrari car production. It was also the last new car model presentation attended by Enzo Ferrari before he sadly passed away in August 1988.
When debuted, Ferrari pledged a limited production run of 400 units. Understandably, far more than 400 clients wanted an F40 so a total of 1,311 models were produced until production stopped in 1992.
When ultimately presenting the F40 to the world, Enzo told the crowd of journalists “I expressed my wish to the engineers—build a car to be the best in the world. And now the car is here.”
